Periodontal Disease
If Periodontal disease is left untreated, this non-painful gum infection can cause bone loss around the teeth causing them to become loose. Chronic bad breath, bleeding, red and puffy gums are early signs of gum infection. Our registered dental hygenist can comfortably and non-surgically help eliminate this disease from your mouth and help prevent any future loss of teeth. Periodontal disease has also been linked as a contributing factor to heart disease.
When periodontal disease is detected, a procedure called “scaling and root planing” is performed to remove plaque and tartar from below your gum line. This controls the growth of harmful bacteria. It also helps gums reattach firmly to the teeth. Because this procedure goes deeper than a regular cleaning, your mouth will most likely be anesthetized. This procedure may take 1 to 4 or more visits to complete.
